Save Someone With the Superior Alternative Rehab Treatment

August 3rd, 2011

Talk to any reformed addict and they will tell you that beating a substance abuse addiction is the toughest thing they will ever undergo. That almost everything they cared about was destroyed throughout the journey, and the major challenge they faced was having to truly acknowledge the harm they were doing to themselves and others around them. While this is a major battle, it is one worth beating.

No addiction starts overnight, and when making a decision to stop, a person will need all the help and support they can get. Many fail to successfully stop their destructive habits that they have been bound to for years because they are unable to overcome the feeling that they need to numb oneself (which is the common underlying reason someone abuses drugs and alcohol).

This is the major downfall of traditional rehab programs – they do not extend the properly level of treatment needed to break the person’s self-destructive cycle. Group therapy rarely is ever enough to help a person with long-term sobriety. Because of this, many who have failed past attempts to heal are now turning to other forms of treatments, including alternative rehab solutions. When investigating the possibilities it is easy to see that there are a lot of different types of solutions available; much more than the average person might think. Quality help is not hard to find and is really up to serious a person is to change and their level of dedication.

Like anything in life, smart choices from the beginning often determine the difference between failure and success. Unfortunately, the latter is not found in typical 12 step programs for the masses. While variations of 12 step treatment are the most popular in today’s culture, it has some of the lowest success rates for long-term sobriety. Because of this, people are starting to take notice of other excellent options that have worked well for others; hoping for similar results.

For the ones who have found success the type of changes are nothing short of amazing. It takes an untold level of dedication to stick with a non 12 step program. Reason being is that they are not quick in and out 28 day treatment. Months are devoted to helping the addict with detox and life improvement programs applied; and when fully completed the result shows all the effort was worth it.

The best efforts always pay off if you use a smart strategy. No addiction is easy to face down and it is understandable why so many fail. However it is important to know that with the right resources on your side it is possible to successfully get one’s life back on track. When an attempt fails, whatever you do don’t give up. Keep the goal in the forefront of your mind and keep trying different solutions until you arrive.

Forget erectile problems with Viagra

June 29th, 2011

Forget erectile problems with ViagraErectile dysfunction is quite a common sexual problem among men. Read further to learn more about Viagra, the first prescription medication for impotence by Pfizer.

Men around the world have problems in their sex life, which usually arise as a result of sexual problems that they are facing. All men, at least once in their lifetime, are known to suffer from some or the other sexual problem. Some of these sexual problems that are commonly known to affect men include erectile dysfunction or impotence, premature ejaculation or rapid ejaculation, lack of sexual desire and problems related to orgasm. Erectile dysfunction or impotence, as it is commonly known as, is one of the most common sexual problems experienced by men. It is a condition, in which a man has problems achieving or maintaining erections long enough for a satisfactory sexual intercourse. Men suffering from such sexual problems are often embarrassed by their condition and suffer in their relationships as well.

What is Viagra?

Men, in earlier times struggled to deal with this sexual problem, but now plenty of treatment options are available for treating impotence. Viagra is one of these treatment options, which was the first drug to be introduced as an impotence treatment. It is manufactured by Pfizer, and was initially to be used as a treatment for men suffering from blood pressure problems. But during the clinical trials, it was observed that the active ingredient of Viagra, sildenafil citrate, helped men with erectile problems. It was then that the pill was introduced as the first impotence treatment. Viagra has since then helped millions of men in treating their erectile problems. Many men are known to use this pill for increasing their sexual desire or libido, which is not correct.

You should avoid using this pill if you are not suffering from erectile dysfunction for a prolonged period of time. This pill should only be used when you are sexually stimulated, as otherwise it will not be that effective. This pill is available in the dosage strengths of 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg, which can be prescribed to you based on the severity of the condition. This pill, with the help of its active ingredient, works by relaxing the corpora cavernosa muscles and increasing the blood flow in your penis. When the blood flow in your penis increases, it allows you to achieve better and longer erections than before.

How to take Viagra? What are the side effects of Viagra?

You are supposed to take one Viagra sildenafil pill along with a glass of water, before or after meal, at least 30 to 60 minutes before you engage in sexual activity. The pill is effective for four hours after you take the pill, but you need to be careful not to take more than one pill within a span of 24 hours. This pill can be taken by men who are 18 years of age or above, but should be avoided by men who are suffering from certain health conditions such as severe heart disorders or failure, recent heart attack or stroke, low blood pressure, severe liver dysfunction, severe kidney dysfunction, hereditary of the back of the eyeball, rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance. Some of the side effects that you can experience while using this pill include headache, facial flushing, upset stomach, nasal congestion, dizziness and bladder pain.

Exercises To Help Get Rid Of Your Man Boobs

June 22nd, 2011

Anyone who has man boobs knows how depressing it can be because it can lead to a lack of confidence and a heightened sense of awareness about your appearance. It is said to be caused by too much estrogen in the body and lower testosterone levels, so losing weight may not necessarily help you lose your man boobs, but it is still trying to lose weight to see if this does help.

There are lots of exercises you can do to try and lose weight and get rid of your man boobs. For a start you should try and do lots of cardio work. In other words physical exercise that will make you out of breath.

The more strenuous the exercise, the more fat you will burn. So you want to be doing exercises such as running and cycling. Swimming is also another great way to lose weight, but if you are really self-conscious about your man boobs, I appreciate that this may not necessarily appeal to you. If these activities all sound a little boring, then you could consider taking part in physical sports such as tennis and football, which will also help you burn fat.

Once you start losing weight and hopefully reducing the size of your man boobs, you can then start thinking about shaping your chest and making it appear more muscular. Two great exercises for this are press ups and bench presses.

Press ups are a simple exercise to perform and you can do them anywhere, so there are no excuses. You should start off slowly, doing say two lots of ten press ups, and increasing the number every day, or preferably every other day (to allow your muscles to recover).

Bench presses are usually performed in the gym as their require a barbell and weights, but you can of course buy this equipment yourself and do them from them. This exercise, where you lie on your back and push the barbell upwards until your arms are extended is another great chest exercise that will give you increased definition.

However I want to emphasise that no specific exercise is going to help you lose your man boobs. You really do need to try and lose weight doing lots of cardio work so that you are no longer overweight. Then you can start working on your chest muscles to give them definition.

If this doesn’t work then you should try talking to your doctor because they may be able to help you with some kind of hormone treatment. Otherwise there are supplements you can try, and as a last resort you can always elect to have surgery to have the excess fat removed. However for a lot of people simply losing weight by doing lots of exercise will be enough to get rid of man boobs, or at least make them less noticeable.

Intra-Uterine Devices – What Are They?

June 8th, 2011

Intra-Uterine Devices - What Are They?Intrauterine devices or IUDs offer a birth control method designed to be inserted into the uterus of the woman. This causes changes that make it difficult for egg fertilization or implantation to take place, leading to pregnancy. IUDs are also referred to as “intrauterine contraception” or IUCs. IUDs which have been approved for use in the United States contain certain chemicals which are released inside the woman’s body over time thereby serving as a barrier to conception.

What Are They?

IUDs are small “T”-shaped devices with a monofilament tail. These are inserted into the uterus by a doctor who folds down the arms of the “T”, which will then open out to form the top of the “T”. The IUD will then remain inside the uterus with the base of the “T” positioned just above the cervix, while its arms will be horizontally extended across the uterus. The short piece of monofilament string which is attached to the IUD will be left extending into the vagina through the cervix. With this string remaining visible, the woman can be sure that the device is still safely positioned in the uterus.

Types of IUDs

There are two different types of IUDs. These include the progesterone-releasing IUDs such as the Levonorgestrel-releasing IUD (Mirena) and the copper-releasing IUDs including the TCu380A (Paragard). The former works by releasing copper from a wire wrapped around its base. This results in inflammation in the uterus thus preventing egg fertilization. This device is approved to remain inside the woman’s body for up to 10 years. On the other hand, the latter is designed to release the hormone progestin from the vertical part of the “T”. This will then create a barrier to block the sperm, cause the thickening of cervical mucus, while also making the uterus lining unaccommodating to implantation. This contraceptive device is approved to remain inside the body of the woman for up to 5 years.

How They Work

The science behind the working of IUDs is not yet completely understood. These devices are believed to work in the prevention of conception by causing a brief localized inflammation in the uterus that will commence about twenty four hours after they are inserted. The inflammation attracts the white blood cells which then produce toxic or poisonous substances to kill off the sperm. IUDs that release progesterone also cause a change in the uterus lining which prevents the successful implanting of the egg onto the wall of the uterus. This device will also alter the composition of the al cervical mucus, thereby preventing sperm from passing through the cervix.

Herbs That Heal Nerves

June 1st, 2011

Herbs That Heal NervesMost medical people will tell you that it is best to treat a problem with the least aggressive measure that is likely to work. For some folks, that may mean heavy duty drugs, but for most of us, herbs and other alternative means may do the trick without bringing out the big guns.

I use visualization where it is appropriate, and find that it can help bring calmness, at least long enough to get the tea brewed or swallow whatever tablet the doctor has handed out. Some people call it “imagining your happiest place.” I call it the 23rd Psalm, as it helps me feel a place of total contentment and peace. It’s easiest to find a passage or poem that helps you find something inside yourself that relaxes you.

If you’re like me, stressful situations tend to cause you to slow or even stop breathing. Of course, the little dots in your eyes will remind you to gasp in some are at some point, but that is not going to help you in the long run. Instead, take ten deep breaths. Do it slowly and fill/empty your lungs completely at each breath. This immediately provides more oxygen to your brain and helps you think more clearly.

Sometimes, aromatherapy can add an additional touch of help without going to herbal remedies or drugs. Lavender works wonders for me, and I’ve been told that chamomile essential oil is also quite useful. These are subtle scents and you may not notice a big difference immediately. It will probably be very slowly and as I said, subtle.

Being creative can be beneficial. In fact, it can incorporate aromatherapy and herbal remedies at the same time. I use it in the kitchen. I like to cook and the more difficult and elaborate the dish, the calmer I feel when it’s done.

Herbs are the next step. The four safest you can use on your own are chamomile, jasmine, lavender and passionflower. They can be mixed or used singly. Some of them pack quite a punch, so be sure to see how you react before driving, operating heavy machinery or taking on anything sharp in the kitchen (that’s from experience…).

A qualified herbal practitioner may also suggest skunk cabbage and/or skullcap. These are stronger, and while they are usually safe, it’s best to let an herbalist mix it for you and give individual instructions. Amounts can differ depending on many things, including body mass. Someone small could be hurt by taking a dose meant for someone larger.

In all of these things, it is a good idea to keep your doctor informed. The doctor will want to monitor how much these options are helping and whether or not they will interfere with another medical condition or any medications you are taking. Make sure to mention any supplements as well, as there can be side effects even between these.

Meal Planning And Kitchen Tips For Weight Loss

May 4th, 2011

Meal Planning And Kitchen Tips For Weight Loss Develop strategies to avoid sampling when you prepare food. Sampling can lead to you consuming way more calories than you should on a daily basis. When you’re trying to cut back, you need to get a grip on sampling while you cook or prepare food. The following list will help get you started:

1. Sip on water or herbal tea.

2. Chew sugarless gum.

3. Have someone in the kitchen with you helping you (and keeping you from sampling)

4. Don’t eat out of the original container. The large size will make you think you’re eating less than you actually are.

5. Prepare your meals immediately after you finish eating. For instance, after you finish eating dinner, make a low calorie salad and lean meat dish and refrigerate it for your next lunch or dinner.

6. Prepare fatty dishes immediately after breakfast and then store them out of sight until needed, if you must make them at all. Most people find fatty foods less appealing during the morning hours.

7. View meats and cheeses as condiments. Try to stop thinking of meats and cheeses, which are high in fat and calories, as a large part of your main courses. Instead, think of them as condiments that sometimes may be needed to add flavor to your low-calorie entrees.

8. Make certain that you’re really hungry before you eat. Take a short walk to find out if you’re really hungry. If you return even hungrier than before, then you probably do need to eat. Ask yourself on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being empty, 5 being comfortable, and 10 satisfied, how hungry are you? Eat when you feel you’re at about 2, and then continue eating only until you reach 5. Drink a large glass of water or a cup of hot tea. Wait 10 minutes and see if you’re still hungry. Just wait 20 minutes and see if you’re still hungry.

9. Understand that occasionally high fat can be better than low fat. Sometimes you may consume fewer calories and fat grams if you eat a small portion of a high-fat food instead of a large portion of a low-fat food. For instance, if you don’t find the low-fat brownies you’re eating very satisfying, you may be eating so many of them that you’re consuming more total calories and fat grams than if you just ate a small portion of traditional high-fat brownie.

10. Try not to shop on an empty stomach or with a lot of money. Donuts and cookies are extremely tempting when you enter a grocery store starving. Eat before shopping. As extra protection against buying high fat foods, don’t shop with a credit car or checkbook. Take only enough cash for what you have on your list. If you do happen to find yourself in a grocery store starving and loaded with cash, then walk on the outside aisles where you’ll find mostly vegetables, breads, fruits, or dairy. Chewing sugarless gum while you shop also helps

4 Sensible, Efficient, and Effective Components For Weight Loss

April 27th, 2011

4 Sensible, Efficient, and Effective Components For Weight Loss There are two common types of clients who walk through my door. Those who want to Lose Weight and those who want to feel better, be pain free, and maintain a healthy lifestyle with a sensible, efficient, and effective exercise program and diet.

The two types share one thing in common. They believe they eat very healthy already. After all, they shop at Whole Foods, eat fruit, salads, stay away from red meat, and have an occasional glass of wine.

Do you eat healthy and still not lose weight? Let’s find out. Below are four sensible, efficient, and effective components to good nutrition both to lose weight & maintain a healthy lifestyle.

1. Calories consumed are less than calories burned or calories consumed equal calories burned.

To lose weight in a sensible, efficient, and effective way, you must create a calorie deficit – eat fewer calories than you burn. Although you are eating healthy food, it is still possible to eat larger portions than your body needs. For example, whole grains are fabulous for your body but it’s easy to forget that a serving of whole grains is half a cup.

I suggest counting calories with a free online calorie counting software for three days to get an idea of where you stand in the calorie consumption department. When you enter the food you’ve eaten, the software calculates how many calories you had. You can also find out how many calories you should be having each day for weight loss and weight maintenance.

2. Food quality.

Are you choosing foods that are nutritious? Calories are important for weight loss but more important is the quality of food you eat. We call these foods Nutrient Dense in the weight loss world. A colorful variety of nutrient dense foods yields tons of nutrition while staying fairly low in calories. Great examples of nutrient dense foods are vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein. While a organic pizza, gluten free pancakes, or vegan oatmeal cookies claim to be healthy & natural they are not nutrient dense choices.

3. True health.

I have clients tell me they are healthy but need to lose 40 lbs.. I will be brutally honest here and say that if you are 15-20 plus lbs. over your healthy body weight, you are not healthy. You may feel fine but inside your body, your organs are straining. Over time, excess weight puts you at risk of heart disease, stroke, high cholesterol, and high medical bills just to name a few. On the outside, you may not be as physically or socially active as you wish because of the excess weight.

Is your body fat in normal range? Do you move well? Are you embarrassed about your excess weight so you avoid being social?

4. Mindful decisions about food.

Are you aware of what you put in your mouth? Digestion truly begins when you decide what to eat. Studies show mindful choices and mindful eating empowers you with self-control and creates awareness of fullness. Making mindful decisions about food can lead to healthy digestion & healthy weight loss.

Eating Disorders: Modeling for Your Anorexic Child How to Regulate Emotion

April 13th, 2011

Eating Disorders Modeling for Your Anorexic Child How to Regulate Emotion One of the most important skills you can teach your child is how to regulate emotion. What I mean by that is managing emotions. How do you teach her this? Model it for her.

It is very challenging for your eating disordered daughter to cope with strong emotion. This could be part of what contributed to the development of anorexia; along with other multiple factors.

Even if she didn’t seem to struggle with this prior to the eating disorder, she certainly will have difficulty now when it comes to giving up eating disordered behaviors. You have to know two things:

1. How to cope with your own emotions and model this restraint and/or expression

2. How to deal with her feelings and behaviors as she bumps up against the eating disorder

Let’s talk about your emotions for a moment. Parents vary when it comes to how they react to eating disorder behavior. Some experience frustration predominantly; often because they are trying to apply logic when the child is not able to be logical. The feelings of powerlessness and helplessness can also cause frustration and anger.

Other parents feel more anxiety and fear due to the experience of powerlessness or helplessness. The fear may be expressed in sadness, anger or pleading behaviors. Expressing anger can help release the anxiety parents feel.

The problem is these emotions expressed out loud in times of stress are not productive for you or your child. She reacts to you, feels judged, misunderstood, anxious and may respond in anger.

Whatever you were trying to communicate or help her with gets lost in the battle. The eating disorder behavior is not attended to and ED wins the battle. He has taken advantage of a conflict between you and your daughter to distract you from the task at hand; re-feeding, preventing binging or purging.

You can see how important it is that you have a lot of support as you help your child recover. There will be more times than you can count when you have to bite your tongue, sit on your hands, or walk away from an impending battle.

Once you have managed your emotions and tamed your impulse to react, you need someone you can express those with. You are not made of stone. You are human and need a place to go with what happens at home.

When you have that safe person to vent to, it is easier to regulate your own feelings. You know you have a place to go and this enables you be to more calm in her presence. You are modeling for her impulse control, sitting with uncomfortable emotion and dealing with distressful feelings appropriately.

You may have to learn the skill yourself as you go along, but it will be well worth your effort to learn it. We all need to learn it because many of us weren’t taught it.
